Buccaneer Bacon

A bacon flavored beer? You might be asking this question as you read...yes, I am currently drinking a bacon flavored beer! Which for most of those who know me well won't be a surprise as my love of bacon is widely known and I have had such things as bacon mints, bacon gum balls, bacon salt, 2 different bacon cakes, bacon ice cream and bacon popcorn!

Buccaneer Bacon is brewed by Three Skulls Ales (Baron Brewing) in Seattle, Washington and it is still Seattle Beer Week so I am proud to be posting another Seattle beer from a different Seattle brewery. I found this at The Beer Junction in West Seattle.
For a change I am sharing a video review from the Beer Review Dude!

Mathilda

Mathilda is the last Seattle beer of this evening and it is brewed by Epic Ales. I tried this beer last night and enjoyed the mint flavor. I can say that now after over 1100 beers it is somewhat rare that I find something truly different than I have previously had but this is one that was!

Here is a Beer Advocate review.

Roger's Pilsner

Roger's Pilsner is brewed by Georgetown Brewing in Seattle, Washington. I first tried this beer in 2008 shortly after I moved to Seattle.

Here is a Beer Advocate review.

Fremont Summer Solstice

Summer Solstice is an American pale ale brewed by Fremont Brewing in Seattle, Washington. I first tried this beer just last week in Seattle. I found this at the QFC in West Seattle.

Here is a piece about Summer Solstice from Seattle Beer News.

Reno's Retirement

Reno's Retirement Ale from Fort Collins Brewery in Fort Collins, Colorado was available at Supermarket Liquors in Fort Collins in 2005.

Here is a RateBeer review.

Ascent 54

Ascent 54 Dunkel Weisse was a beer that was produced and sold just in Colorado during 2007 by Anheuser-Busch, which is now part of Anheuser-Busch InBev. I had Ascent 54 at a couple of places in Fort Collins, Colorado.  Ascent 54 is named for the 54 14,000 foot high peaks in the state of Colorado that are also known as "14ers."

Mike's Hard Lemonade

Mike's Hard Lemonade is a FMB that I first tried in 2002, also in Fort Collins, Colorado. This is one of the few that has stayed strong through the years and has several brand extensions that I will share in future postings.

Stolichnaya Citrona

Stolichnaya Citrona is one of the "brews" as it is a FMB that I am proudest of having ever tried as it is one of the shortest lived of the 2002 FMB craze! Stolichnaya Citrona was produced by SABMiller in a partnership with Allied Domecq.  I first tried Stolichnaya Citrona in the summer of 2002 in Fort Collins, Colorado.  Here is a great review of some of the FMBs that have come and gone including the Stoli!

Jeremiah Weed Spiked Cola

I am currently having this Jeremiah Weed Spiked Cola "Premium Malt Beverage with Natural Flavors" in Seattle, Washington. Jeremiah Weed Spiked Cola is made by Diageo, the makers of the Smirnoff Ice beverages and the Jeremiah Weed Bourbon. Here is a review and video about Jeremiah Weed Spiked Cola.  In the fall of 2011, I posted about the Jeremiah Weed Lightning Lemonade, which I actually tried prior to having the Spiked Cola or the Roadhouse Tea.

Zima

Zima is the pioneer of the flavored malt beverage group. I first tried this one way back in the 90s! I think it is interesting that the Zima website asks for your birth date but since this one has been around for so long even the real youngsters could remember it from the way back. It looks totally different than it did way back in the day!
Here is an article about its life, though it may have come back since then as the website above is live with a new look.

Jack Daniels Hard Cola

This was briefly available in a malt beverage variety during 2002 and that is when I tried it. I was in Fort Collins, Colorado at the time. Here is a news release about its debut in 2002.

Malternatives or FMBs

I will try to get back into the daily rhythm of posting this upcoming week but in an effort to try to catch up I will post a series of flavored malt beverages (FMBs). Some will be from the FMB hey day of 2002, maybe a pioneer of the category and even new comers and maybe even one that has stayed strong throughout. I also have a page where the FMBs or Malternatives that I have posted are listed with links to the posts.

Phin & Matt's Extraordinary Ale

Phin & Matt's Extraordinary Ale is brewed by Southern Tier Brewing in Lakewood, New York. I have become a pretty big fan of Southern Tier over the last 3 years. I first tried Phin & Matt's in Seattle early in 2010 and I found it at the Beer Authority in Lake City. Here is a Beer Advocate review and a RateBeer review.

Tecate

Tecate is brewed in Mexico by FEMSA. I first tried Tecate in Fort Collins on the same Mexican beer day trip to the local store that I first got Negra Modelo on in 2003. Here is a Beer Advocate review and a RateBeer review.

Trader Jose

Trader Jose is another Mexican beer, at least that is what it says on the bottle (Imported from Mexico) that is sold in Trader Joe's stores. I first tried this beer in the summer of 2009 in Seattle, Washington. Here is a Beer Advocate review.

Dos Equis (XX)

Dos Equis is brewed in Mexico by FEMSA. I first tried Dos Equis at Old Chicago in Fort Collins, Colorado, probably in 2002 or 2003. Dos Equis has had a very interesting advertising campaign going for a few years, it is about The Most Interesting Man in the World as the commercial below seems to illustrate! More can be seen at staythirstymyfriends.com

Here is a Beer Advocate review and a Rate Beer review.

Negra Modelo

Negra Modelo is also brewed by Grupo Modelo in Mexico. I first tried Negra Modelo in 2003, when on a whim I went to the local liquor store and decided to have a Mexican beer day and came home with a case of various Mexican beers. Here is a Beer Advocate review and a RateBeer review.

Corona Extra

Where else would a Mexican beer day begin but with Corona? Corona Extra is brewed in Mexico by Grupo Modelo and is one of the top selling brands of beer in the world. I first tried Corona in Fort Collins, Colorado in the summer of 2000. Here is a Beer Advocate review and a RateBeer review.

Cinco de Mayo

Since I have been so bad at keeping up with the posts lately, I will put forth a new effort for Cinco de Mayo. Today will now be Mexican beer day. Look forward to several beers today!
